Ubong-Abasi Okoro, from Nigeria

 AGONY OF A TROUBLED NATION

Through fluttering winds,
Amid sunset and sunrise,
The fate of Nigeria is decided,
Before our very eyes,
The nation's cords rent in twain,
The riverbanks are taken aback,
We are as sheeps with no herd.

Through the eyes of discernment,
Amid frustrations and despair,
The fate of Nigeria is decided,
Before our very eyes,
Young lads are laid lifeless,
The ground enjoy great bodies,
We are as sheeps with no rearer.

'Nothing is hidden under the sun' we say,
Our rights are hidden under the sleeves,
Before our very eyes,
We're blinded by sentiments,
The fate remains unbearable,
We are nothing but risk takers.

We hear ear-tingling stories daily,
Stories with no definite endpoint,
Of a truth we're pained silently,
Yet we say our prayers mutely.

When shall we sing new songs?
When shall we hear good news?
When shall our bellies be filled?
When shall our faith be bond?

Our homes are cunningly littered,
Now we seek a place of solace,
A place we can have pleasure,
A place we can breed good heads,
A place flowing with milk and honey,
But when shall these wishes come true?
