want Peace, not War ~ Raja Debroy

I remember, I was very happy after getting a gun on my childhood, especially during Durga Puja. That time, we used to play thief-police game with that gun. If I didn't buy a gun, I made a paper gun and played with it. A lot of people may agree with me with this experience. In fact, unknowingly a war-war mentality would have been created in my/our mind (although we can consider it as play mood). But if you think from a psychological point of view, we were trying to show ourselves strong or trying to establish dominating attitude with that 'powerful' gun.

We had also read and heard the battle of Ram-Ravan in Ramayan and the battle of Pandav-Kourav in Mahabharata. We made a bow and arrow and we did play war-war game. Even in traditional studies, most of the syllabi in history books involve reading war or memorizing the events of the war. Foreign history books may have the story of war also! But our feelings of getting guns are as much as equal to foreigners.

We have heard many about war or freedom fights etc. The word 'war' has become quite familiar from our childhood life. We have an 'ugly' urge to watch wars in other countries. But at the stage of mature age, it cannot be said that we love war. Actually we don't like war, because of the horrors of war and post-war events, socio, economic and political instability or crisis.

But, as we are forced to go through various setbacks in our life-struggle, there is a feeling of war-war in everything every time in our mind/consciousness! As a result, negative thinking has been created in many aspect. In order to satisfy the ego, the idea of abandoning the soft and helping mind comes! It comes or may come consciously. Most of the times we are misguided to make proper decisions.

So there is no alternative to peace. We want to do anything for peace. But at the end of the day, the mind is restless, unsatisfied. Definitions of peace differ because of different perspectives. Yet peace is desired after all. Instead of going into the theoretical analysis, we might have to say that alternative to war is peace or more peace. And specially in the view of the current situation in the world, we just want to say, "No war. Not at all. Just want peace, only peace!"
